Fluorescent tubes are a very competitive means by which to illuminate an area large or small. There are many varities and colours on offer to suit all tastes and requirements. Linear tubes should not be confused with compact fluorescent tubes (CFL) which are more commonly known as low energy Light Bulbs. Fluorescent tubes require a fitting which contains an electronic ballast and/or a starter to ignite the chemicals in the tube to emit light.
There are various diameters of fluorescent tubes ranging from a T2 style that are 7mm diameter all the way up to T12 which are 38mm in diameter. However the two most popular sizes by far are the T5 (16mm Diameter) and T8 (25mm Diameter). These lamps are available with 2 different coatings which suit different budgets. Halophosphate coated which is for when the cost is the important driver, and triphosphor coated when the designer is requiring high quality colour rendering and greatly improved energy efficiency.
Halogen Light Bulbs where first invented by GE Lighting in 1958. A halogen light bulb simply uses halogen gas to allow the halogen light bulbs to burn more brightly and also ensure that the life cycle of the lamp is not shortened. They produce a very clear and crisp light out put, unlike the incandescent bulbs they replace that can give out a yellowish glow.
Most commonly known for the GU10 and the MR16 Halogen Light Bulbs are also available in many different shapes and wattages. A complete a full range of spot light bulbs are available as well as larges GU10 Light Bulbs known as the AR111 halogen Lamps. The traditional MR16’s that are 50mm in Diameter are now available in 35mm Diameter known as an MR11 and also 25mm Diameter known as an MR8. These lamps can sometimes also be called GU4’s.
A full range of coloured GU10 Halogen Light Bulbs are available as well as a complete range of MR16 Halogen Light Bulbs, such as Amber, Blue, Green, Lilac, Magenta, Purple, Pink, Red and Yellow. The most recent change to halogen light bulbs is the introduction of the Energy Saving Xenon Halogen Light Bulb range. These ranges of light bulbs are direct replacements for standard shaped light bulbs as well as spot lamps and Candle Light bulbs.

Incandescent Light Bulbs and Halogen Type Light Bulbs Pass an electrical current through a thin strand of metal, generally tungsten and the strand of wire will glow brightly. This stand of wire is housed in a vacuum enclosed clear or coloured glass vessel that then magnifies the element, and therefore enhances the illumination.
Fluorescent Tubes and Low Energy type Light Bulbs simply pass an electrical current through a starter or ballast unit that then ignites various chemicals or powders that then cause a chemical reaction and again as with Incandescent and Halogen Light Bulbs a glow will then appear and it is enhanced in the same way through the glass housing.
