Table Light
I want to change the look of our KITCHEN TABLE- IT is a very light oak- PAINT? DECOUPAGE?
I have found the perfect “size & shape” kitchen table, but I hate the color- my woodwork is a dark honey/maple color, and the table is (blonde?) very light oak.
I was thinking- can I paint this? Or maybe Decoupage (I could use family photos on the table surface?).
My house ‘theme’ is cottage/country- any suggestions? Or should I leave it alone?
You can decoupage the photos on the top but be careful. You will need to lightly sand the surface if there is a sealer over the wood. Or you can use a liquid sand product, like Paseo, to give the surface tooth for the decoupage medium to adhere to. Also, I have used copied photos and have found that the ink used in my flatbead printer smears when wet or when the decoupage medium (which is really water and white glue) goes across the top. Once you remove the slick sealer, you can also paint the surface with latex paint, but I would prime first with a good stain blocking primer like Zinsser. You can then use 2 coats of latex paint. But, whether you decoupage or paint because it is a kitchen table subject to spills and food, be sure to seal it with a non-yellowing, UVB/UVA protecting polyurethane, like Varathane.
