What is psychology term for the thinking process which mistakes your own fears and attributes them to be the intention of others?
A form of PROJECTION, in which you lay your beliefs, attitudes, assumptions, intentions, etc., on others.
An opposite would be INTROJECTION, in which you take someone else’s attitude, belief, etc., into yourself and make them it own. If you accept it completely, we can say that you have “swallowed it whole.”
Thus, if you accept this idea (which is an actual psychological category, by the way, so I’m not messing with you!) and take it “as your own” and live by it…you have “introjected” it. — Dr. Bob
