One of the downsides to acquiring an antique is the cost. You may luck out while at a garage sale, thrift store or auction. However, for anyone who has a passing or expert knowledge of antiques, is well aware that any type of antique can be expensive. The designer, year or materials made to use the lamp can all affect how much you spend. One reason for the cost, is most of these lamps were handmade and it is next to impossible to find that type of artistry in today’s modern lamp. Another reason could be due to the piece being a collector’s item. With a collector’s item, you will have multiple people at any one time all wanting to purchase the lamp. Because there is so much competition, sellers will often time charge a higher purchasing price to make the most return. And depending on how popular or coveted the lamp is, it may go up for auction, where potential buyers can compete and the seller has the option of making the maximum return.

If you don’t have the funds or don’t want to spend the funds for it an authentic antique, then you have the option of antique style lamps. Antique style lamps may not be as old as true antiques, but they mimic the style and design of an original antique.
